PACS is a process for distributing and archiving radiological images. It allows multiple physicians secure access to any image, at any time and from any place. With digital radiography and PACS, clinicians receive enhanced images at faster rate. In some cases, the physician may have a diagnostic image even before the patient is back from the exam.
• Emergency Department
Virtua Camden is upgrading and renovating its Emergency Department due to an increase in admissions. Additional capacity is the number one priority, but the renovations also include an enhanced clinical workspace and upgraded finishes. Construction will likely begin in the fall of 2009.
• CT scanner
Virtua Camden is installing a new computed tomography (CT) scanner. The CT scanner can capture images of any organ in one second and images of the heart and coronary arteries in as little as five heartbeats. In a single rotation, the system creates credit-card-thin images that are combined to form a three-dimensional view of the patient's anatomy. This greatly saves patients and physicians time detecting blockages that could lead to a heart attack, while producing a better quality image.
This ultra-fast CT scanner can also identify strokes and evaluate blood flow in other organs such as the liver and kidneys.
The project is expected to be completed in early fall 2009.
• Farmer's Market
The Farmer's Market on the Virtua Camden campus provides fresh, locally grown produce, as well as health education, screenings and fun activities for the whole family. The weekly market runs from July through late October/early November.
