Virtua Memorial’s recent facility enhancements:
• Labor and Delivery triage area
Mothers in labor have a private triage room conveniently located near the labor and delivery unit where they receive 24/7 immediate OB triage and centralized monitoring.
• Pediatric emergency care unit
The Child and Adolescent Rapid Emergency Service (CARES) unit provides emergency services for children ages 12 and under. The CARES unit includes five beds and three treatment chairs. Pediatric physicians and nurses treat children with all types of illnesses, from rashes and colds to respiratory problems due to pneumonia. CARES at Virtua Memorial is available 7 days a week.
• Inpatient hospice unit
Virtua Memorial, in a partnership with Samaritan Hospice, provides a dedicated inpatient hospice unit that offers a warm family-centered setting for patients whose symptoms require the most acute level of care.
• Cardiac Catheterization Lab
The 12,000 square foot lab — the second at Virtua Memorial — serves the increasing number of both emergency and elective procedures with the highest quality technology available. The lab provides the best technology available to diagnose serious cardiac conditions. Procedure rooms, preparation and recovery areas are housed together, as well as a comfortable waiting room for family members.
Two procedure rooms are equipped with the latest technology, including an all-digital cardiovascular imaging and archiving system, the clearest visualization of fine vessels, pinpoint diagnostics, immediate life-saving capabilities, and the ability to treat more cardiovascular conditions.
• Digital Mammography Virtua Memorial's digital mammography equipment provides physicians with more precise images to detect and treat breast cancer. The increased visibility of images enhances breast surgeons' ability to perform needle-localized breast biopsies.
Digital mammography lowers radiation exposure for patients because there are fewer images needed and a reduced number of retakes. Images can be sent instananeously to physicians electronically, relieving patients from having to pick up films.
• Ronald McDonald House of SNJ Family Rooms
The Ronald McDonald House of SNJ Family Rooms provide a place for family members of pediatric and neonatal intensive care unit patients to relax, enjoy a snack and access the Internet in an uplifting setting that offers comfort and support. The rooms occupy approximately 1,000 square feet and are decorated in a beach theme. They are located on the third floor of Virtua Memorial in the pediatrics unit and the special care nursery.
